Jennifer Moir

Jennifer Moir received her Master’s of Vocal Literature and Performance from The University of Western Ontario. In addition to her duties as in Instructor of Voice and Choirs at The Don Wright Faculty of Music at The University of Western Ontario, she is on Faculty at St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota where she teaches during intercession for The Voice Care Network.

As a community choral conductor, Ms. Moir conducts The Woodstock Fanshawe Singers, a mixed choir based in Woodstock ON, and was the Founder/Artistic Director for Project Sing!,a young women’s vocal ensemble based in London, Ontario 2000 - 2008. From 1995-2001 she co-directed the internationally award winning, Junior Amabile Youth Singers, London, ON.

Ms. Moir is the Founder, Artistic Director and Producer of the Kaleid Choral Festival held annually in Woodstock, Ontario.

Select conducting credits include: CBC Radio Competition Prizes, Gold Medal Performances at the Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales and The Choral Olympics in Linz, Austria, the Opening Ceremonies, Jeux du Canada Games, CD recordings: Canadian Portraits, The World Awaits, Echo as well as a music video of the Huron Carol. In 2002, she was the recipient of the distinguished Leslie Bell Prize for choral conducting. Ms. Moir is a supporter of new Canadian music and has commissioned over 70 new works since 1998.

As a vocalist, Ms. Moir maintains a small private studio in addition to her work at UWO, and presents masterclasses and solo recitals each season. She adjudicates festivals and works as a clinician for voice and choirs across North America annually. In, 2009, she was guest artist in residence at the both the Sibelius Academy and Konservatorio, in Helsinki, Finland.

Select singing credits include Suor Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica (UWOpera, London, ON and OperaViva, Kelowna, BC), commissioning and premiering, “Tableaux Eternelles” a song cycle for Soprano and piano, by Canadian composer Jeff Smallman, collaborations with pianist John-Paul Bracey presenting the music of Joaquin Turina and the North American premiere performance of the music of Guastavino.

Margot Jewell

Margot Jewell has enjoyed working with young people and their families, first at the Hamilton Suzuki School where she taught violin and was also the director. Then in 1982 she founded the Etobicoke Suzuki School of Music, where she presently teaches and is co-director. She received training from many inspiring Suzuki trainers, including a three-month study time in Matsumoto with Shinichi Suzuki in 1985.

Margot is an active freelance musician and festival adjudicator. For many years she was a member of the board of the Suzuki Association of Ontario. Since 2003 Margot has enjoyed evaluating and encouraging students across Canada as a member of the College of Examiners for the Royal Conservatory of Music. She enjoys teaching at Suzuki workshops and institutes as well as summer music camps.

Margot’s Suzuki parenting skills were developed as mother to a violinist and cellist who are now young adults.

Sir William Hughes

Sir William (Bill) Hughes is the Director of Music for the Burlington Teen Tour Band. Born in Holywood, Northern Ireland, Bill was the principal flute and piccolo player with the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines for nine years, during which time he performed solos for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other heads of state at many official functions.

He performed as a freelance flautist throughout Britain and Europe and with many of the top orchestras in London (B.B.C., London Symphony) as well as doing recordings for television and radio. He has performed for H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Michael of Kent, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret, King of Norway, President Reagan and other Heads of State.

In 1982 he became Captain and Principal Director of Music for the 48th Highlanders of Canada. In 1998 Sir William became the Director of Music for the Burlington Teen Tour Band -- Canada's largest and most award winning Youth Band. Photo of newly appointed OAC board members

A frequent adjudicator and clinician Bill has judged throughout North America and at the World Championships for Marching Bands (Calgary, Germany , Japan ). Bill is a member of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Arts Council, Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and sits on the Music Advisory Committee for Mohawk College.
